MDA to Provide Radar Surveillance Systems to Canada's DND

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd., a global communications and information company, announced on March 24th that it has signed a contract valued at CA$64 million with Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) to provide eight radar surveillance systems for integration into the CP-140 Aurora fleet.

The CP-140 Aurora fleet is Canada’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Aircraft. The fleet is used by the Royal Canadian Air Force in activities such as domestic surveillance of Canada’s maritime approaches, search and rescue missions, and maritime and overland operations. The additional radar surveillance systems supplement the previous radar surveillance systems developed and delivered by MDA under this program.

MDA’s radar surveillance system provides users with a high resolution imaging capability that can detect, locate, and classify, land and marine-based objects, such as vehicles and ships.

Don Osborne, the vice president responsible for this business said, “Canada’s DND and MDA have developed a successful working relationship based on quality, reliability and value. We are pleased to support DND with this repeat business and provide additional high-performance airborne radar surveillance systems.” Osborne further stated, “This contract underscores the global need for critical multi-mission intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities that aid in the detection of illegal or hostile activity in maritime approaches or remote regions.”
