On March 31, Major General (MAJGEN) Tim Gall became the Commander Joint Forces New Zealand. At a Change of Command parade held at Trentham MAJGEN Gall was promoted to his new rank and took command of Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand (HQ JFNZ).
MAJGEN Gall was raised in Invercargill and Nelson. He joined the Army in 1978, undertook initial officer training in Australia at the Royal Military College, Duntroon, and graduated into the Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport in 1982.
During his career he has held a wide range of regimental, command and staff appointments, served in five operational deployments (in Antarctica, two in the Middle East and two in Bougainville), and in 2004, completed a Master of Arts degree at the Australian College of Defence and Strategic Studies.
“MAJGEN Gall is an exceptional officer and I know he will do an outstanding job as the leader of our Joint Force Headquarters,” says Chief of Defence Force LTGEN Tim Keating.
MAJGEN Gall said, “It is a great honour to be appointed to this pivotal role in the NZDF, and I look forward to being part of the new Defence Force leadership team.
“It is also a considerable responsibility. The Commander Joint Forces is required to plan and deliver effective operations, as well as much of the NZDF’s training programme – completing the development of a joint amphibious task force will be a top priority for me in the coming months.”
MAJGEN Gall’s interests include hiking, skiing, running, mountain biking and adventure travel.
