HMNZS Otago, a Protector class off-shore patrol vessel of the Royal New Zealand Navy, has ventured into the freezing colds of the Ross Sea around Antarctica within Operation Castle.

Otago left New Zealand in the middle of November 2013 to patrol the area and monitor fishing practices, as part of the New Zealand’s membership of the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources. The offshore patrol vessel returned to the base on Sunday.
