Future USS Coronado Leaves Austal Shipyard

he US Navy’s newest littoral combat ship (LCS), the future USS Coronado, left the Austal USA Shipyard and headed to her commissioning site in Coronado, Calif.   LCS Program Manager, Capt. Tom Anderson, said that it was exciting to see the ship exiting the new construction yard en route to her homeport. 


Japanese Navy Loses Submarine

The Japanese Navy lost a USD 5.7 million worth unmanned submarine last year, according to AFP.   The submarine was being used in the Tsugaru Strait, a channel located between the Japanese islands of Honshu and Hokkaido, in November last year, for collecting data from the underwater terrain in the area. 


South Korean Navy Gets New Destroyer

Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction has delivered a new indigenously-built destroyer, the 13th of the PKG-class (guided-missile patrol killer), to the South Korean Navy, the Yonhap News reports.   The Defense Acquisition Program Administration said that the 450-ton destroyer will join the South Korean Navy missions after two months of deployment.


Chinese Navy Ships Patrol Zengmu Reef

Three Chinese ships named Changbaishan, Wuhan and Haikou patrolled the Zengmu Reef on 26 January, Xinhua reports.   The ships formed a triangle and the officers and men lined up and held a sovereignty oath-taking ceremony in the waters of the Zengmu Reef. 


Two Indian Navy Commanders Relieved of Duty

In the aftermath of the recent mishaps that have caused various safety concerns, the Indian Navy has decided to suspend the commanding officers of INS Talwar and INS Betwa.


General Dynamics NASSCO Starts Construction of USNS John Glenn

General Dynamics NASSCO today began construction of the future USNS John Glenn, the second ship of the U.S. Navy’s Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) program. The 765-foot long ship is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in the first quarter of 2014.
