Ukrainian Frigate Begins Second Patrolling through Gulf of Aden

The Ukrainian Navy’s Frigate Hetman Sahaydachnyi started the second patrolling through the Gulf of Aden within the EU Naval Force Operation Atalanta on January 19th, 2014.

The frigate recently finished the first patrolling of the area, which took place from January 5 to 15, after which it headed to the port of Djibouti for replenishment.

During the patrol Hetman Sahaydachnyi completed routine activities such as landing and take-offs of the Ka-27PS helicopter, air reconnaissance and monitoring of the surface situation.

The Ukrainian frigate will continue the counter-piracy operations until 5 March, 2014.

The frigate joined EU Navfor on January 3, as part of Operation Atalanta.
Previously, the ship was busy ensuring navigation security in the Gulf of Aden from October 12, 2013 through January 2, 2014 as part of the Ocean Shield operation.
