An amount worth USD 11.5 million, which is part of USD 1.1 trillion U.S. Spending Bill, has been allocated for the construction of two Virginia-class attack submarines at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and facilities upgrades, reports Fosters.com news site.

US Senators Angus King and Susan Collins of Maine and Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire said in a joint statement that the investments in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard highlight the instillation’s importance to the US Navy and the national defense.

According to the Shipyard Spokesman Gary Hildreth’s statement, the $11.5 million would be used for renovations and consolidation of structural and pipe fitting shop operations so as to cut energy use.
