NNS Receives CVN 78 Construction Support Contract (USA)

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Inc., located in Newport News, Va. has received a USD 9.8 million contract for onboard repair parts in support of the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) construction.

 

USS Gerald R. Ford will be the lead ship of its class of the US Navy supercarriers.
On September 10th 2008, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding signed a USD 5.1 billion contract with the US Navy to design and construct the ship.

The carrier will be the first of a class of aircraft carriers that will have significant performance improvements over the previous carriers of the same class.

Newport News Shipbuilding will perform the work at their shipyard in Newport News, Va. and the work should be completed by September 2014.
