Canadian Navy Submarine to Return to Service after Decade

The Canadian Navy submarine HMCS Chicoutimi will return to the fleet almost a decade after a major fire onboard the ship, as reported by CBC news.


British, Russian Ships Meet at Sea

The Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyer, HMS Defender, returned to Portsmouth yesterday having ensured safe passage of a Russian task group along the country’s coast.   The Russian task group including a 65,000 tonne aircraft carrier, anchored in the Moray Firth due to bad weather. 


US Navy to Move Two Destroyers to Hawaii

The U.S. Navy is moving two guided-missile destroyers, USS John Paul Jones (DDG 53) and USS Preble (DDG 88), to Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, this summer as a way of boosting Aegis capabilities to Commander of Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific (CNSGMP), the Navy said in a release yesterday.

France: PIRIOU, DCNS Land Contract for Three Ships

French defence procurement agency DGA has awarded a contract to PIRIOU and DCNS for supply of three multi-mission ocean-going vessels, with an option for a fourth and associated maintenance services.


Russia to Get 40 Warships in 2014

The Russian Navy will receive 40 new warships and auxiliary vessels in 2014, as reported by RIA Novosti.   Deputy Commander of the Navy, Rear Admiral Viktor Bursuk said that the Navy would commission two new submarines into the fleet during this year.
