HII Gets USS Gerald R. Ford Contract

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ business division Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has been awarded a USD 8.16 million contract for USS Gerald R. Ford.

During the contract execution, NNS will perform all efforts necessary to procure, manage and deliver onboard repair parts in support of the USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) construction.

The construction of the ship began on August 11th 2005, the keel was laid on November 13th 2009, and the aircraft carrier was christened on November 9th 2013.

USS Gerald R. Ford is scheduled to enter the US Navy’s fleet in 2016 and replace the inactive USS Enterprise (CVN-65). She will be the lead ship of her class of the US Navy’s supercarriers.

NNS will carry out the work in Newport News, Va., where the ship is being built, by September 2015.
