Indian Navy Ship Vikramaditya Arrives Home

The new aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, INS Vikramaditya, has docked at her homeport of Karwar, Karnataka, the Mangalore Today writes.

The 284-meter long warship headed from Russia to India on 27 November 2013, and arrived to the Kadamba Naval Base on Tuesday, January 7th 2014.

INS Vikramaditya was subjected to a refurbishing and modification period in Russia, which lasted nine years.

The warship was formally commissioned in November 2013 in Severodvinsk, Russia.

Naval sources said that the ship would play a significant role in protecting the main oil reservoirs and other industries in times of emergencies, also the ship would take over duties of INS Virat after her decommissioning.

The ship is expected to start patrolling the Indian Ocean early this year.
