Italian Navy Ship Departs Dar Es Saalam

Italian Navy frigate named ITS Libeccio has completed a port visit to Dar Es Saalam in Tanzania as part of EU Naval Force mission.

The ship’s crew conducted anti-piracy training with the Tanzanian Navy on Tuesday 24th December.

As part of the visit, ITS Libeccio’s company visited a local orphanage located in one of the poorest areas of Dar Es Salaam and presented a donation.

The ship also welcomed the Italian Ambassador in Tanzania, H.E. Luigi Scotto, the Ambassador of the EU H.E. Filiberto Ceriani Segrebondi, members of the Italian community in the city and some of the children aboard.

The ship joined the EU Naval Force operation Atalanta on October 6th after an intense period of preparations.

During the deployment, the ship recently assisted a Yemeni fishing dhow along the Somali coast that was having trouble with one of its skiffs due to bad weather.

ITS Libeccio will return to its homeport in Italy in the second half of February this year.
