HMAS Sirius Under New Command

HMAS Sirius Under New Command
COMMAND HAND OVER CEREMONY

The Royal Australian Navy’s replenishment ship HMAS Sirius has changed command off Christmas Island, with the formal exchange of a petrol nozzle – a symbol of excellent support Sirius provides to the fleet.

Captain Brian Delamont was relieved by Commander Darren Grogan.

CAPT Delamont reflected on the most important achievements during his command by saying:

“Sirius has met all of her operational requirements over the period of my Command and that could not have been achieved without the tireless efforts of the crew. This has included recent participation in Exercise TALISMAN SABER, during which we conducted the largest Replenishment at Sea in the history of the Royal Australian Navy.”

CAPT Delemont has been promoted and is about to assume the position of Director General Navy Information Warfare in Canberra.

Incoming Commanding Officer, CMDR Darren Grogan thanked CAPT Delamont for his efforts over the last two years and said:

“I am looking forward to getting to know the ship’s company over the Christmas and New Year period as Sirius continues to provide support to ships tasked on Operation RESOLUTE.”

Sirius returned to her homeport of Fleet Base West in mid December 2013, having completed her deployment to South Asia and Operation RESOLUTE.
