Cantabria Departs from Turkish Naval Base, Heads Home

Spanish fleet replenishment ship ‘Cantabria’ has just departed from Aksaz (Turkey), the third and final port of call after visiting Indonesia and India during her cruise back to Spain.

Since her departure from Sydney on November 1st, the ship has sailed 39 days with two logistic calls at Jakarta (Indonesia) and Goa (India). During the cruise through the Indian Ocean, the ‘Cantabria’ has replenished other Spanish Navy units operating in the area; namely the OPV ‘Tornado’ and the F-100 frigate ‘Álvaro de Bazán’, as well as warships from other nationalities fighting piracy off the Horn of Africa.

After transiting through the Suez Canal, the ‘Cantabria’ has also provided logistic support to the NATO counter-terrorist operation ‘Active Endeavor’ in the Mediterranean.

The ship is scheduled to arrive at Ferrol on December 21st.
