NATO Allied Maritime Command Hosts DSACEUR

General Sir Richard Shirreff, KCB CBE, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) paid a visit to NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) on Wednesday, 6 November 2013, and met with its Commander, Vice Admiral Peter Hudson, CBE.

The two NATO leaders took the opportunity for an exchange of views on the current NATO maritime operations and their possible developments, as well as the practical implementation of the Allied Maritime Strategy.

General Shirreff received extensive briefings from the MARCOM staff on NATO’s ongoing counter-piracy Operation OCEAN SHIELD, counter-terrorism Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOUR, and Standing Group operations in support of the ongoing NATO exercise STEADFAST JAZZ in the Baltic, testing the NATO Response Force.

“It is critically important for nations to resource our high readiness maritime forces to enable us to match our level of maritime ambition with credible capabilities,” said General Shirreff.
