Just three weeks after the chefs produced a magnificent commissioning cake to celebrate their ship formally joining the Naval family, the galley of HMS Duncan was a hive of baking activity again.
October 11 marked the 216th anniversary of the Battle of Camperdown – where the ship’s namesake Admiral Adam Duncan defeated the Dutch Fleet – and also the 3rd anniversary of the launch of the sixth the Type 45 destroyer.
And you can’t have a birthday without cake, so step forward Chef Shanie Evans:
“I’ve been with HMS Duncan since early 2013 and have had a wonderful time on-board.
“It was an honour to bake the cake that has been enjoyed by the Ship’s Company.”
The current Duncan is the seventh to bear the famous fighting Admiral’s name. More than 14,000 people watched her launch on the Clyde back in 2010.
She’s the last of six Type 45 anti-air warfare destroyers built for the Royal Navy, based with her five older sisters – Daring, Dauntless, Diamond, Dragon and Defender – in Portsmouth.
She is currently undertaking trials at sea in order to ensure the maximum capability from her on-board weapon, communication and marine systems.
