Nigerian Navy Apprehends Suspected Oil Thieves

The Nigerian Navy turned over six suspected oil thieves to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the AllAfrica news site.

The suspects have been transferred for further investigation and possible prosecution on the grounds of illegal transporting of petroleum products, believed to be automotive gas oil, to smaller boats offshore Escravos.

The Nigerian patrol vessel NNS Cobra arrested the suspects on board MT ALLI-RIZA BEY and MV SOA vessels during its patrol on July 28th, an EFFC spokesman stated.

EFCC added that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as the investigation closes.
