The Royal Navy’s newest warship played host to two England football stars ahead of their World Cup qualifier next week.

England ladies internationals Alex Scott and Jordan Nobbs were welcomed on board Type 45 destroyer HMS Duncan at Portsmouth Naval Base.

They are expected to feature in the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2015 qualifier against Turkey on September 26 at Fratton Park, home of Portsmouth FC.

The stars were greeted by members of the Royal Navy Women’s Football Team and HMS Duncan crew members and took part in a photo shoot and impromptu kickabout on the ship’s flight deck.

Alex Scott said, “It has been fantastic to come down to Portsmouth and get such an amazing reception.

We really enjoyed going on board HMS Duncan and meeting members of the crew and Royal Navy football team.”

Members of the Armed Forces are being offered discounted tickets of £2.50 for the Turkey match.

The game coincides with HMS Duncan’s commissioning ceremony at the Naval Base, marking the ship’s transition into front-line service.

Duncan is the sixth and last of the Navy’s new-generation Type 45s.
