Taiwan to Buy Warships from US Navy

Taiwan Navy is planning to buy two warships from the US Navy, according to the Agence France-Presse. The warships will be Perry-class frigates, which are estimated to be worth up to USD 5.6 billion. The purchase is part of Taiwan Navy’s efforts to modernize their forces and replace the Knox-class frigates that had retired.

The latest design for the Fleet’s frigates of tomorrow have been unveiled as the first contracts were placed for equipment to be fitted to them. Thirteen Type 26 Global Combat Ships will replace the existing baker’s dozen of Type 23 frigates which have served the RN with distinction since the early 1990s.


HMAS Huon Recovers Lost Rescue Craft

A joint effort by the Headquarters Northern Command and Navy mine hunter HMAS Huon has lead to the recovery of a merchant vessel’s high speed rescue craft, which was adrift in the Timor Sea for more than six days.

Two Russian Navy warships, an anti-submarine ship and a guided-missile cruiser, have been sent to the Mediterranean Sea amid announced airstrikes of the West against Syria, Reuters reported.
