HMNZS TE MANA Well into Her Work-Up

The Anzac frigate HMNZS TE MANA is well into her Work-Up, operating out of Sydney in the East Australian Exercise Area.

The Work-Up so far has included many damage control and machinery breakdown evolutions and a successful towing exercise with the RAN Landing Ship Heavy HMAS TOBRUK.

While not at sea, TE MANA is based at Fleet Base East, Garden Island in Sydney Harbour.

TE MANA left Devonport Naval Base on 12 August for a seven-month deployment that will culminate in her joining sister navies on anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden and Horn of Africa from November to February.

As well as her intensive training period with elements of the Australian Defence Force, TE MANA will participate at the International Fleet Review in Sydney in October.

The Commanding Officer, Commander Shane Arndell, is proud of the work of his Ship’s Company of 177.

“Sending HMNZS TE MANA half way around the world is part of a global effort and shows New Zealand as an international citizen, playing our part. Through the presence of warships in the area the acts of piracy have dropped over the last few years and we are proud to be a part of that.”
