HNLMS Johan de Witt Hosts Maritime Security Course

HNLMS Johan de Witt Hosts Maritime Security Course

Fourteen participants from various countries on the east coast of Africa have attended the EU’s Senior Maritime Security Course on board the landing platform dock HNLMS Johan de Witt.

The Johan de Witt is currently operating off the coast of Somalia as the flagship for the Atalanta counterpiracy mission.

The course is over a week long and is part of the civilian EU capability-building mission EUCAP Nestor. That mission is aimed at enhancing the maritime capabilities of countries in the region of the Horn of Africa and the Indian Ocean. This was the first time the course was taught on board a ship taking part in Atalanta.
