Sri Lanka: Navy Arrests Persons with 200 Water Jel Capsules

Naval troops attached to SLNS Vijayaba of the Eastern Naval Command with the assistance of Uppuweli Police arrested 3 persons with 200 water jel capsules weighing 30 kilograms and 10 meters of safety fuse in the Illuppukulum and Erakkanddi area on 28^th July 2013.

The arrested persons and the items were handed over to Uppuweli Police along with the three-wheeler used to transfer the illegal explosives for further investigations.

The Navy reamains alert to nab persons engaged in illegal fishing which results in depletion of fish catch depriving the fishermen of their legitimate livelihoods. In oredr to prevent wanton destruction and loss of income for the fishermen, naval troops apprehend illegal explosive devices that cause enormous damage to fish breeding grounds, marine resources and coral formation.
