BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair Nabs USS Benfold Contract

BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair Inc has received a modification to previously awarded contract worth as much as USD 38.6 million, on July 19th 2013, to definitize the USS Benfold (DDG 65) fiscal 2013 extended selected restricted availability.  

The maintenance work will be conducted in San Diego, Ca. and it is estimated to be finalized by August 2014.

USS Benfold, which is an Arleigh Burke-class Destroyer, was among the first ships armed with new AEGIS Ballistic Missile System.

An earlier upgrade of USS Benfold took place in 2011 at BAE Systems San Diego Drydock.

The USD 32 million upgrade involveda completely integrated bridge, enhanced machinery and damage control, quality of life improvements, an advanced galley, and commercial-off-the-shelf computing accessories.

BAE Systems San Diego Repair offers solutions of repairing non-nuclear ships, modernization, conversion and overhaul.

The company as well provides services for commercial ships, such as cruisers, tankers, barges, research ships, reefer and container ships, and kelp cutters.

The range of the company’s services also includes maintenance of government ships including cruisers, navy destroyers, LPDs and LSDs.
