Sri Lanka Navy Intercepts 88 Persons Illegally Bound for Australia

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted 88 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler on 19 thJune 2013.The trawler named “Mishma” was intercepted by a Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command 12.5 nautical miles off Batticaloa

Among the arrested persons are 86 Tamils, a Sinhalese and a Muslim that included 56 men, 18 women and 14 children. They are residents of Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mannar, Mullaithivu and Colombo. They were brought to Trincomalee Harbour to be handed over to the Harbour Police Trincomalee for further investigations.
