Revamped Iranian Destroyer Bayandor Hits the Water

Iranian destroyer Bayandor has hit the water once again after a major revamp that lasted over a year and a half, the Associated Press writes. The modernization of the warship, undertaken as a part of the country’s efforts to attain defense self-sufficiency, included arming the warship with anti-ship missiles, overhaul of the main engines, heat exchangers and fuel and oil systems.

The refitted destroyer features optimized monitoring control, sonar and communication systems.

The launching ceremony, held on June 11 in the port of Bandar Abbas, the Persian Gulf was attended by Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and the state’s Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi, according to the Fars news agency.

Bayandor will be engaged in ensuring protection of Iranian territorial waters along with conducting various operations in international waters.
