Australia: Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme Participants Visit Creswell

Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme Visits Creswell

HMAS Creswell played host to high school students from across New South Wales recently when participants in the Naval Aviation Prospects Scheme (NAPS) visited the region.

Students from as far as Wangaratta and Jindabyne participated in the March session of the work experience scheme and had an insight on to life in the Royal Australian Navy.

NAPS has been run by Training Authority – Aviation since 2008 and Chief Petty Officer Electronic Technician Glenn Smith, who currently facilitates the four day program said that it provides a ‘hands-on’ experience for students.

“The Creswell component is new in 2013 and provides an opportunity to experience what may become the start of their future career.”

“The program develops the skills of young people and eases their transition into the workplace”, he said.

The new Creswell gymnasium was the focus for rope and rock wall activities under the direction of the physical trainers, before a brief on the history of the Royal Australian Naval College, and a tour of the base.

A highlight for the students was sitting down with those who had taken the next step—joining the Navy. Lunch was hosted in the College Dining Hall and NAPS students were able to dine with members of the New Entry Officers’ Course and hear about life under training at Creswell.

The NAPS group are just one of the hundreds of visits hosted by HMAS Creswell personnel annually in efforts to showcase Navy training and enhance community ties.
