Sri Lanka Navy Intercepts 55 Persons Illegally Bound for Australia

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted 55 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler in the early hours of 24th April 2013. The trawler named “Mithuna Putha-3” was intercepted by a Fast Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Western Naval Command 12 nautical miles west of Negombo.

Among the arrested persons are 47 Tamils, 05 Muslims and 03 Sinhalese that included 41 men, 06 women and 08 children. They are residents of Mullaithivu, Jaffna, Vavunia and Puttalam. They are being brought to Modera Fisheries Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
