Sri Lanka Navy Intercepts 97 Persons Illegally Bound for Australia

Sri Lanka Navy intercepted 97 persons illegally bound for Australia in a multi-day trawler in the early hours of 27th March 2013. The trawler named “Sumudu Putha” was intercepted by a Sri Lanka Navy’s Fast Naval Patrol Craft in the South-eastern seas.

Among the arrested persons are 39 males, 18 females and 40 children. They are residents of Batticaloa, Ampara, Puttalam, Badulla, Mannar, Killinochchi, Chilaw and Negombo. They were brought to Oluwil Harbour to be handed over to the CID for further investigations.
