USA: New Commander Takes Over COMSUBGRU 2

New Commander Takes Over COMSUBGRU 2

Sailors from Submarine Group (COMSUBGRU) 2 welcomed a new command master chief March 15. COMSUBGRU 2 Command Master Chief Andrew Smith relieved Command Master Chief Wesley Koshoffer.

Koshoffer’s pivotal role as the command master chief was to work with the command master chiefs from submarine squadrons and major commands to ensure that enlisted personnel are supported and developed both professionally and personally.

“As I leave Groton I know I’m leaving the Group in extremely capable hands,” said Koshoffer, who has served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years and hails from Newport, R.I. “Working with the submarine squadrons and major commands here in Groton has been a privilege and is something I will treasure.”

Koshoffer will transfer to Commander, Submarine Force Atlantic in Norfolk where he will assume duties as the Submarine Force command master chief.

Smith previously served as Submarine Development Squadron 12’s command master chief. He has served for the past 29 years in the Navy and looks forward to carrying the mission forward at COMSUBGRU 2.

“I hope to continue the work started here with Master Chief Koshoffer taking care of our Sailors,” said Smith. “Continuing to support our warfighting mission and keeping the lines of communication open from Portsmouth, N.H., through Groton and Norfolk. It has been a pleasure to work with and continue to serve with Master Chief Koshoffer.”
