Crew of ‘Méndez Núñez’ Frigate Provides Anti-Piracy Training to Tanzanian Navy

The Spanish Navy ship ‘Méndez Núñez’, deployed from November 22 within Operation “Atalanta” undertaken by the European Union Naval Force to fight against piracy off Somalia, has been working with the Tanzanian Navy and police, providing them with relevant education and training.

A delegation of 27 members visited the Spanish frigate, moored in the Tanzanian Port of Dar es Salaam, attending workshops, demonstrations and training on procedures for maritime traffic control (MTC), diving and operations of prevention and repression of acts of piracy  such as Atalanta.

One group attended MTC operations training, where they learned different recording techniques, personnel downsizing and moving around inside vessels.

The second group of delegates received theoretical training about scuba diving and lessons on work done aboard the frigate.

The last group, comprising staff from the Marine Police, received a lecture on maneuvering and hauling boats. Then they conducted an exercise in boat handling in the harbor basin.
