Chief of Naval Operations Reenlists San Diego Sailors

Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert reenlisted 31 Sailors at a reenlistment ceremony and all hands call hosted at Naval Air Station North Island’s Lowry Movie Theater, Jan. 31.

The ceremony and all hands call was transmitted live for audiences worldwide to see online.

The reenlistment ceremony is a way for Sailors to renew their commitment to the Navy and their country in a public forum in front of their shipmates.

Before reenlisting the Sailors, Greenert thanked the families in attendance.

“It is very important to have you involved in this and thank you for what you’re doing to support the Sailors here reenlisting,” said Greenert.

Information System Technician 2nd Class Scott Wardius, assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group 3, felt honored to be reenlisted for his first time in his naval career in front of his Shipmates by the senior military officer of the Department of the Navy.

“It was awesome,” said Wardius. “It meant a lot to meet and be reenlisted by one of our highest person in leadership up close and personal.”

After Greenert administered the oath of enlistment to the Sailors, an all-hands call followed the ceremony. Greenert covered a wide range of topics including budget resolutions, sexual assault prevention, operational tempos and the Navy’s future.

During his 16-month period as the 30th CNO, Greenert has focused his efforts on improving the Navy’s war fighting capabilities, developing Sailors professionally and maintaining the force’s readiness in order to support its assigned missions.
