Electric Boat Lands USS Mississippi Contract Modification

Electric Boat Corp., Groton, Conn., is being awarded a $51.6 million cost-plus-fixed-fee modification to previously awarded fixed-price-incentive contract (N00024-03-C-2101) for the planning and execution of the USS Mississippi (SSN 782) post shakedown availability (PSA).

Electric Boat Corp., will perform planning and execution efforts, including long lead time material procurement, in preparation to accomplish the maintenance, repair, alterations, testing, and other work on SSN 782 during its scheduled PSA. Work will be performed in Groton, Conn., (99 percent) and Quonset Point, R.I., (1 percent) and is expected to be completed by December 2013.  Supervisor of Shipbuilding Conversion and Repair, Groton, Conn., is the contracting activity.

Electric Boat has been designing and building submarines since 1900, beginning with USS Holland, the U.S. Navy’s first commissioned undersea warship.

While Electric Boat’s primary focus is on submarines production, the company actively participates in markets adjacent to its core business, leveraging expertise and technical innovation to naval surface ship and commercial nuclear programs.

USS Mississippi (SSN-782) is a Virginia-class submarine of the United States Navy, named for the state of Mississippi. The contract to build her was awarded to the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation and Mississippi’s keel was laid down on 9 June 2010. The submarine was commissioned at a ceremony on 2 June 2012 in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
