Sri Lanka Navy Apprehends 27 Indian Fishermen

Naval craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command apprehended 27 Indian fishermen and 4 Indian fishing trawlers poaching in the Sri Lankan waters East of Mullaithivu on 23rd December 2012. They were brought to Trincomalee Harbour and handed over to the Police for legal action.

SLN vessels and craft are in deployment for interception of unlawful intrusions into SL waters. The Navy assists the fishing industry and apprehends the poachers in order to prevent exploitation of the country’s fishing resources and harms inflicted on its marine life.
