Royal Australian Navy Names V8 Star an Honorary Officer

Ford V8 Development Series Supercar driver Chaz Mostert has added another achievement to his list of career highlights, with the 20 year old named as an honorary officer in the Royal Australian Navy on December 1st.

During a visit to the Telstra 500 in Homebush on Saturday the Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Ray Griggs took the opportunity to officially appoint Chaz to the honorary rank of Lieutenant.

The Royal Australian Navy has developed a strong association with Ford Performance Racing through the outplacement of two marine engineering sailors into the Racing team. The inclusion is not only part of a retention initiative for engineering sailors, but it also sees them develop their skills in pit lane. Vice Admiral Griggs said he appointed Chaz Mostert because he has exemplified Navy values.

“Honour, honesty, courage, integrity and loyalty are the core values we in uniform strive to live by every day,Vice Admiral Griggs said. “Chaz’s conduct and skill on and off the track has demonstrated these attributes.”

As an honorary Lieutenant, Chaz Mostert won’t be able to command a Navy vessel or asset, but it will allow him to wear a uniform at special Navy events and continue his promotion of Team Navy.

Chaz has been an enthusiastic supporter of our Marine Technician (MT) placement program at Ford and his support for Navy and our role in protecting Australia’s maritime interests is much appreciated, both by me and the men and women I command,Vice Admiral Griggs said.

“We look forward to a long and positive association with Chaz as he continues to build on his career.”
