Russia: CF Commissions New Corvette

Triumphant hoisting of St. Andrew’s Flag (Russian naval ensign) took place yesterday on corvette Dagestan being commissioned into Caspian Flotilla (CF).

Dagestan is the first Russian warship armed with new missile system Caliber-NK capable to launch several types of high-precision missiles and built under stealth technology.

The ship is designed for engagement of submarines, surface ships and aircraft when performing patrols, protecting of state maritime border and maritime economic zone.

Dagestan is equipped with vertical launch missile tubes; firing range of cruise missiles is up to 300 km. The corvette can engage not only sea-surface but ground-based targets, too.

Apart from missiles, the ship is equipped with quick-firing gun mounts and high-precision antiaircraft gun system. It gives the corvette multifunction capability. Dagestan may spend over two weeks at sea all alone and cover 5,000 nautical miles (9,260 km) without replenishment of food and fuel supplies.

“The ship was built by Zelenodolsk Shipyard in Tatarstan. It is the second Project 11661K ship built for Russian Navy; she has a number of innovations comparing to the lead ship Tatarstan, flagship of Caspian Flotilla“, reports ITAR-TASS citing press service of Republic of Dagestan.
