Hampshire Firefighters Test Fire Fighting Tactics Onboard HMS Victory

Hampshire firefighters have tested their procedures and emergency planning on board Britain’s oldest warship, HMS Victory, in Portsmouth.

Crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised onto the historic ship, which attracts around 350,000 visitors per year, as if a real fire had broken out. The exercise assessed fire fighting tactics, tested command and control protocols as well as liaison with the Royal Navy.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Group Manager for Portsmouth, Dave Smith, said:

“The Victory is a Portsmouth icon so we need to ensure the ship is protected and that local crews are familiar with its layout, and given the opportunity to assess procedures and test emergency planning in the event of an incident on-board.”
