On August 28 German EU Naval Force Frigate Sachsen came to the aid of AL SACIID, a cargo dhow adrift due to a problem with the steerage gear. The Sachsen was advised of the dhow’s predicament by a Japanese MPRA (Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft) patrolling the area.
Having established good communications with Al Saciid’s master, he agreed to receive a technical team from the German frigate. The German technicians removed the broken parts and took them back aboard Sachsen where they were welded.
The repaired parts were then handed over to the dhow’s crew, who were able to continue safely on their way.
