BMT, IPL Join Forces to Help Support UK's Ministry of Defence

BMT Defence Services Ltd, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, has announced its latest contract which will see the organisation partner with IT specialists IPL to support, further develop and enhance the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Business Management Information Systems (MIS).

Enabling the provision of business tools and their associated in-service support, the Defence Information Services Team – Business Solutions (DIST-BS) team within the MoD’s DE&S provides application services that operate in support of current operations, business management, administration information solutions and delivery of enhanced future capability.  BMT and IPL will come together to address known technical update requirements, resolve legacy issues and further improve usability for all users across DE&S, providing an essential precursor to future DE&S Management Information development.

Sam Dorling, Project Manager at BMT Defence Services explains: “Both BMT and IPL have an excellent pedigree of providing ground-breaking software solutions to the UK MoD and we are delighted to be working together on this project.  This partnership will help further develop the DE&S MIS to ensure it is more flexible and adds value at all levels of the MoD organisation.  We are committed to ensuring it is suitably agile to adapt and accommodate changing business requirements in a timescale consistent with user needs and expectations.”

With over 50 years’ collective experience in designing, developing and supporting software for the MoD, BMT and IPL will also identify and address underlying data coherence issues, actively rationalise and integrate existing tools and data sets in line with an overarching framework architecture – all of which will help to reduce long term support and development costs.

David Shepherd, Divisional Director Aerospace & Defence at IPL says: “We are pleased to be working with a regional partner on this important capability for the Ministry of Defence. The Department faces considerable challenges to maintain acquisition performance at optimum efficiency, whilst delivering the savings demanded by Government plans. IPL is proud to be playing its part in developing the new information tools required to meet these aims.”

Muir Macdonald, Managing Director of BMT Defence Services comments: “This project is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how the coming together of two of the most innovative companies in the south-west of England will support UK Defence, further enhancing and supporting business tools and the management of information.”
