Rockwell Collins has been selected by Science Application International Corporation (SAIC) to provide its Sub-Net Relay (SNR) solution for the U.S. Navy fleet as part of the PEOC4I Battle Force Tactical Networking program. Rockwell Collins is the sole provider of SNR, a technology that makes it possible to establish mobile ad hoc, Internet-Protocol (IP) networks used for tactical data exchanges, enhanced situational awareness and collaborative planning utilizing existing communications systems onboard naval vessels today.
“This award to equip U.S. Navy ships with SNR further solidifies SNR’s position as the IP networking system of choice for interoperability among joint and coalition naval forces by providing a common standard for collaborative planning and sharing of tactical information, ” said Bob Haag, vice president and general manager of Communication and Navigation Products for Rockwell Collins. “ We are looking forward to working closely with SAIC and the Navy to extend this critical capability to U.S. Sailors and Marines.”
SNR is a fully masterless architecture with dynamic relay capabilities that features built-in text chat, comprehensive signal display and a remote control graphic user interface. SNR was developed for the Canadian Navy in 2009 and is rapidly becoming a NATO standard for network interoperability among coalition partners.
Work on the program will be performed at the Rockwell Collins facility in Ottawa, Ontario, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
