 Eastern Naval Command's Vesak Celebrations Kick-Off

The Vesak celebrations organized by the Eastern Naval Command were declared open by Governor of the Eastern Province Rear Admiral (rtd) Mohan Wijewickrama on 05th May 2012 at the invitation of Commander Eastern Naval Area Rear Admiral Jayanath Colombage.

A colourful procession, proceeding from SLN Dockyard Entrance to Tissa Temple, paraded through the Trincomalee town to mark the commencement of the Eastern Command’s Vesak celebrations.

A Bodhi Pooja followed by a Dhamma Deshana was also conducted at Tissa Viharaya with the attendance of Commander Eastern Naval Area and the naval personnel of the Eastern Naval Command. A two-day Bath Dansela too commenced to coincide with the celebrations and a large number of people from Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities participated symbolizing the religious harmony that exists in the area.

Beautifully decorated Vesak lanterns, made by the naval personnel attached to naval establishments, ships and craft under the Eastern Naval Command, are also on display from 05th to 07th for the public to view. They line up the road from Dockyard entrance to Naval Hospital Junction.
