Cambodia Ministry of National Defense’s Special Envoy Visits Brunei Darussalam

The Ministry of Defence, Brunei Darussalam today welcomed a visit by His Excellency General Neang Phat, Secretary of State, Ministry of National Defense (MoND), Kingdom of Cambodia. Accompanying the General are Brigadier General Mao Vibol, Deputy Director of ASEAN Affairs Department, MoND, Brigadier General Ly Vanny, the General’s Secretary and Deputy Director of Information Department, MoND.and Mr. Uch Kimdang, First Secretary of the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Brunei Darussalam.

During the visit, the General paid courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa bin Hj Sirat.

During the call, both sides also had the opportunity to exchange views on the current development in the bilateral defence relations between both countries as well as ADMM related meetings currently held in Cambodia. Cambodia is currently the ASEAN’s Chairman for 2012.

Also in attendance during the courtesy call are Acting Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Pengiran Dato Paduka Hj Azmansham bin Pg Hj Mohammad, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development), Awang Sahrip bin Othman.

Brunei Darussalam and Cambodia established diplomatic relations on 9 June 1992. Defence cooperation and interaction between both countries are good which include training such as the English Language Courses offered by Brunei Darussalam’s Ministry of Defence to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces as well as shooting competitions such as Cambodia’s participation in Brunei International Shooting Skills Arms Meet (BISAM) and in the ASEAN Armies Rifles’ Meeting (AARM). Other interactions between both sides are during multilateral meetings such as the ADMM and ASEAN Regional Forum.

His Excellency General Neang Phat arrived in Brunei Darussalam yesterday evening and will be departing the country later in the evening today. The visit is the first for the General to Brunei Darussalam.
