Russian Defense Ministry Issues Tender for Torpedoes Fizik-1

Russian Defense Ministry issued a tender for technical maintenance of 533-mm torpedoes Fizik-1 (Product 2534). Tender conditions were published on the state procurement website. The tender is open for participation till Apr 12, 2012; winner will be selected on Apr 16. Defense ministry plans to spend up to RUR 96 mln for torpedo servicing.

To attend the tender, a candidate must be authorized to perform works associated with state secrets and licensed to repair weapons. Tender security volume is RUR 480,000 which is 0.5% of maximum contract cost. The contract cost includes torpedo transportation expenditures, consumable materials, and developing of methodical repair documentation.

According to the tender conditions, a winner must complete all works by Nov 25, 2012. Technical specification requires maintenance and adaptation works in order to complete the torpedo commission procedure.

Fizik-1 torpedoes were designed by Marine Thermotechnics Research Institute. According to online blog, new torpedoes will be the weapon of Project 885 nuclear-powered attack submarine Severodvinsk as well as other subs of this project and modifications. Each Yasen -class submarine is armed with ten 533-mm torpedo tubes.
