Russia Plans to Launch SSK Novorossiysk in 2013

 

It is planned to set afloat diesel electric submarine Novorossiysk late in 2013. According to Alexander Buzakov, acting director general of Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard, the Project 636.3 diesel sub will be stationed at Black Sea Fleet.

SSK Novorossiysk was developed by Rubin Central Design Bureau. It is a third-generation submarine and modernization of projects 877, 877EKM, and 636. Test depth is 300 meters; endurance is 45 days; crew is 52 men. Admiralteyskie Verfi laid down a keel for the submarine in Feb 2011.

Buzakov also said that other six submarines of the project would serve at Black Sea Fleet as well. According to him, works on strength hull of the second submarine in the series – SSK Rostov-na-Donu – are also in progress.

Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard (transformed from federal state unitary enterprise into open joint stock company on Nov 20, 2008) is specialized in designing, construction, and modernization of civil vessels and warships, including nuclear-powered ones.
