Armed Pirates Attacks Refrigerator Ship in Harbor of Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Armed pirates attacked a refrigerator ship in the harbor of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The ship is chartered by a Dutch company; her crew consists of Russian, Ukrainian, and Filipino sailors. The incident happened on Feb 28.

Menacing the crewmembers with guns, pirates forced them to give money and, having taken two hostages (shipmaster and chief engineer), escaped on a motorboat. Citizenship of the kidnapped sailors is unknown.

As a result of attack, one out of 14 crewmen was injured, said the spokesman for International Maritime Bureau Noel Choong. According to him, pirates have carried out seven attacks off Nigeria this year, reports ITAR-TASS.
