Iranian Warship Saves Tanker from Somali Pirates

Iranian warships rushed to help the tanker which was attacked by pirates near the Gulf of Aden, Navy’s Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Seyyed Mahmoud Mousavi said on Tuesday.

The naval forces opened timely, massive fire on pirate boats, he added.

Indian Ocean coast of Somalia waters is considered as the world’s most dangerous for repeated piracy attempts.

Attacks of heavily armed Somali pirates have prompted some of the world’s largest shipping firms to switch routes from the Suez Canal.

Iran’s Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008.

International Maritime Organization Secretary Described in May 2011 the anti-piracy efforts of Iran’s Navy as “effective”, presstv reports.
