Sri Lanka Navy Arrests 9 Persons Persons Engaged in Illegal Fishing

Naval troops attached to the Eastern Naval Command arrested 09 persons with 03 FGDs engaged in illegal fishing using explosives. Five persons were taken into naval custody in the seas off Foul Point while 04 persons were taken in the seas off Uppural.

The following items were recovered from their possession:

  1. FGDs – 03 nos.
  2. OBMs – 03 nos.
  3. Diving Marks – 05 nos.
  4. Snorkel – 01 no.
  5. Cylinders – 05 nos.
  6. Diving Fins – 02 nos.
  7. Explosives – 150 gramms
  8. Safety Fuses – 04 pieces
  9. Fishing snare – 01 no.
  10. Fishing Nets – 02 nos.
  11. Fish Catch – 186 Kilo-gramms

The arrested persons along with items recovered were handed over to Sampoor Police and Lanka Patuna Police Post respectively for further investigations.
