Sailors from Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit (EODMU) 5 rescued two local fishermen off the rocks in Apra Harbor, Guam Jan. 20.
Following routine morning exercises outside the harbor, EODMU 5 divers and technicians spotted the distressed men stranded at the harbor’s entrance and assisted them safely to Family Beach near Cabras Island in Piti. The fishing vessel the men were in capsized off the waters of Apra Harbor.
The men did not require medical attention, but were given water as they appeared dehydrated.
“A rescue like this shows the community that EODMU 5 and the military as a whole are standing by and ready to assist anytime and any place,” said boat operator Navy Diver 2nd Class (DSW/AW/SW) Jonathan R. Peglow . “The actions of my fellow EODMU 5 Sailors demonstrates that our training and dedication can make a difference.”
EODMU 5 is responsible for locating, identifying, and rendering safe all conventional, chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, and improvised explosive hazards in the western Pacific area of operations and elsewhere when directed.
