Sri Lanka Navy Intercepts Drug Smugglers

Fast Attack Craft P 480 attached to the Northern Naval Command arrested 08 persons along with 02 kilograms of heroin and 02 vessels in the seas west of Iranathive Island on 28th November 2011. The arrest was made close to midnight with the assistance of Inshore Patrol Craft P 157.

Fast Attack Craft P 480 had detected a suspicious movement of a fiber glass dingy in the seas west of Iranathive Island sailing alongside an Indian trawler, which had illegally entered the Sri Lankan waters. It intercepted the suspected boats with the assistance of IPC P 157 and subsequently, recovered 04 parcels containing heroin, each weighing approximately 500 grams. They arrested 03 Sri Lankans onboard the FGD and 05 Indian nationals onboard the trawler, who were involved in the smuggling racket.

The suspects with heroin were handed over to Kankasanthurei Police for further investigations.
