Ukraine: BSF Sums Up Training Year

 

Black Sea Fleet (BSF) Military Council convened in Sevastopol in order to summarize the fleet’s activities in the training year of 2011.

The session was headed by BSF Commander Rear Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov; BSF Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Alexander Troyan delivered the main report.

In particular, he noted that the fleet’s ships had carried out 11 long-range cruises, 30 calls at foreign ports, BSF submarine Alrosa had participated in the Bold Monarch 2011 joint rescue exercise. Two times BSF ships attended activations of the BLACKSEAFOR joint task group, and in Aug 2011 took over its command. The fleet’s task force took part in the IONIEX 2011 Russian-Italian joint exercise, held the Fairway of Peace 2011 exercise along with Ukrainian colleagues, BSF seagoing tug SB-304 was on anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden.

Scheduled training activities of various tactical task groups were conducted as well.

Ships and coast defense troops have carried out 765 combat drills, and 30 unit qualification drills.

BSF Deputy Commander for Personnel Affairs Capt 1 rank Yury Orekhovsky reported on law order and discipline matters.

Summarizing the session of BSF Military Council, the fleet commander RADM Alexander Fedotenkov outlined key priorities for the coming year. Special emphasis was put on preparations for ocean cruises and accomplishment of training tasks in the Black and the Mediterranean seas.
