Guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) arrived in Burgas, Oct. 25, for a regularly scheduled port visit as part of U.S. 6th Fleet’s strategy to enhance regional stability in the Black Sea by strengthening maritime partnerships.
During their visit to Burgas, the first by a U.S. Navy ship in 12 years, the crew will host a reception for local military and civilian officials.
“We have a very busy schedule to include a formal dinner with local military and civilian leaders,” said Capt. Stephen Shinego , commanding officer of Philippine Sea. “ We host these dinners to help enhance the friendship between the U.S. and these foreign nations, and also as a way to thank them for their unwavering hospitality.”
The ship’s culinary specialists will also provide a cooking demonstration for children at a local school.
“This will be a great sharing opportunity for both the host country and our culinary specialist,” said Command Master Chief Roy Hooper . “It’s always great when we can share knowledge with the host country, as there is always something for us to learn from them.”
Community service events allow Sailors to meet with local residents, and experience the rich history and culture of Bulgaria.
Philippine Sea is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the Black Sea and serves to promote peace and security in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
