Navy-CISF Joint EOD Camp Concludes at Kochi

A five day joint explosive ordnance handling camp for the Navy, Kerala Police and CISF concluded at the Naval base on 21 Oct 11. The Camp organized under the aegis of Southern Naval Command commenced on 17th October and saw the participation of 40 personnel from the participating agencies.  

Addressing the concluding session, Commodore Ajay Saxena, Chief Staff Officer (Operations) of Southern Naval Command underscored the importance of such engagements between the security forces in view of the asymmetric threats emanating from various quarters. The Commodore while thanking the State Police for their participation promised more such initiatives from the Navy, involving forces like the Indian Army. DIG MR Ajith Kumar, Commissioner of Police also echoed the sentiments and said that cooperation and sharing of knowledge is need of the hour. The Commissioner also touched upon the increasing threat perceptions for the country and the city of Kochi.

During the camp, live demonstrations and practical lessons included among others, transportation of improvised explosive devices to a safe zone for deactivation, remote opening of explosive laden vehicles and rendering it safe, and demolition using explosives. The participants visited Kochi Police anti sabotage and bomb disposal training premises, Naval Armament Depot, Aluva and Cochin International Airport for their training sessions.
Shri P Gourishankar, Chief of Security, CIAL and Commander AK Sharma, Command Special Operations Officer also attended the concluding session.
